Do you know what the answer is?
As irritating as that may seem, let me explain and I’m sure you’ve heard of the phrase…
“It’s the little things that matter.”
So, What’s The One Thing To Move You Forward
In Jeff Olson’s book The Slight Edge, he best describes the little things as…
Imagine you have this large spin wheel which weighs a few tons and you have to turn it around one revolution by yourself. And, once you begin to move it just moves a few inches. You continue to push on, and it moves a few more inches. The next, it moves a whole foot. The next move pushes it 90 degrees. And, before you know it, you have turned the spin wheel one revolution.
Which push do you think made the difference in making the one revolution turn?
The first one, the second, or the last?
Well, there is no particular push that made a difference. It’s all of them that mattered.
Each and every push that turned it just the slightest amount, led to one full revolution.
With your business it is the same thing. Everyday you are doing the little things, which may seem insignificant.
But, with the power of compounding effort, those continuous small tasks lead to success.
So, if you are still wondering, “But, what can I do?”
Here it is…
Do everything, every single day of that which will contribute to moving your business forward.
For the networkers, that means contacting prospects day in and day out, even though each one may not turn into a distributor.
You should be spending 85% of your time prospecting. Whatever form you use to get prospects, whether it’s automated or manual, you need to be doing this.
And as a result, those efforts will not go unrecognized and they will eventually lead to success.
All you really need to do is keep on keeping on, no matter what.
Why do you think most people are looking for that one thing that will get them over the hump or searching for that magic pill?
Do you think it is the lack of understanding that each and every little thing matters?

Hi Jerome,
I enjoyed Jeff Olson’s analogy, a real world example of how an achievement has its root in the collection of tiny acts.
It’s not what you do but how you do it, and “it” means every single business act you’re engaged in throughout the day. It takes presence of mind to pay attention to detail in a thousand miles per hour world but the fruits of your mental discipline are worth it.
Thanks for sharing this awesome reminder!

Hey Jerome,
I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s the little tasks that you do everyday which will eventually get you to your destination. I believe another reason why a lot of people quick is because they feel that these little tasks are insignificant to their success. Thanks for sharing.

“85% prospecting” ~ That is a key statement. Many people don’t realize that you must spend this much time on prospecting. Yes, the small things, creating videos, writing articles, building relationships on Facebook are all key components of this business however, PROSPECTING brings in the MONEY. Money only comes from one place – people!! Nice post.

Hey Jerome,
My favorite line here — “Keep on keeping on…” Love it! That has been a philosphy of mine.
And you’re exactly right — prospecting is important and should take a great amount of your time. Without prospects you have no business!

Great post Jerome. I think a lot of people take a few steps and see no light so they stop. They want to see light before they take the next step. I used to be like this.
One has to remember that even though you can’t actually see light while you are taking steps, you have to visualize seeing it, in faith before it actually materializes.
~Marcus
Hey Marcus,
Great reference to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I was also like this. I guess we have that in common.

Hey Jerome,
You are so correct about prospecting. That is where we need to spend most of the time. The way to accomplish it, just like you said…push a little every day.

Hey Jerome,
We’ve all heard the cliches – “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time” – and yet, we so tempted by that myth of the quantum leap.
Greatness comes in small steps. Thanks for reiterating that.
