So you have a home business, you know your objective is to earn income but how?
By engaging in business building activities!
What is business building activities after all?
Business building activities are tasks that you do within your home business that ultimately leads to you earning income.
Do you think checking your email, surfing the web, updating your Facebook status is business building?
You hear a lot of people these days say how you should start your business or how you should run.
But are showing you exactly what this means?
The truth is, all that matters is that you are doing things that will produce you income.
PERIOD! End of discussion.
So, What Does Business Building Activities Look Like?
A perfect example we can look at is leads.
We all know that leads are your bloodline to your business. Without them, you’re in trouble.
But with them, is a whole different situation, as long as you are connecting with them.
Big assumption that you are doing this by the way!
Ok – in order to get leads there are things you need to do.
The illustration I have provided below shows all of the tasks that are a part of the business building activities.
If we look at any of the tasks above, like Articles, we know if our intention is to write an article that will lead to generating a lead, that is a business building activity.
However, if you’re writing an article where you do not provide the reader the ability to find out more, then this no longer becomes a business building activity.
The same goes true if you were to write an article, give your readers the ability to connect with you and this time you don’t follow up with them.
In order for these to be classified as a legitimate income generating task, it’s important there is a call to action and that action is to be taken on your part if someone inquires about your business or products.
Every single task you do within your home business should ultimately lead in some form or another to you earning income.
To make sure this is the case with your business, set aside specific business building time.
During this time, you are only doing the important tasks that contribute to you making some mula / money / cash.
Save the internet surfing, social media browsing, and reading emails to your off business building hours.
If you can do this, you will find your home business moving forward at a faster pace you ever thought was imaginable.
This is what business building activities is all about.
What are some of the business building activities you perform?

Hey Jerome,
Thanks for the diagram, it spells out the importance of multiple lead sources. Once you stick with one lead generation source and get results the next plan is to expand and get as much traffic as possible.
Thanks for the post my friend.

Great illustration Jerome,
It is so easy to get distracted from the things that should be your main focus. Generating and converting leads. The other thing I agree with is don’t write just to write. Or put out a video or press release. Fewer submissions of quality content are a ton better than lots of junk content.

Absolutely Eric.
Great point! Quality is better than junk, that’s for sure.

Great post! It’s easy to do all the nonsense first, but then the most important, money making action steps get moved to later or worse “tomorrow”.

We’ve all done that at some point right.
Thankfully we are now aware of what really needs to be done.

Hey Hector,
Glad you liked the diagram.
Sometimes we just need to break it down and see what it takes. Sometimes it can be scary, but not knowing is even worse.
Have a good one and thanks for dropping by,

Hey Jerome,
It’s great that you are talking about this. Some folks don’t really understand what is business building activities. They think just because they are hanging out in the Social Sites they are building business. Well, if you are putting marketing material on social sites…Then Yes!
If you are not free from a job or achieve financial freedom then I believe there is no time for free time. I know I’m a little radical at times. But I also know I’m going to be living the lifestyle of Freedom.
Chat with you later…

Awesome points Jerome! I have to agree that if one wants to use content marketing to generate leads then the content must provide solutions to what people are looking for. This is why spending time getting into the head of one’s prospects and knowing how to reach them via the keyword process is so vital.
Cheers

I love your post, Jerome!
I’m amazed when I go to Ezine Articles.com and start doing some research into a topic I’m interested in – that the writers don’t bother to “lead me on” to something of value.
I’m not interested in how great they are – in their “Author’s box”. I want to know “What’s in it for me?”
Thanks for an insightful post that gets me thinking. I appreciate you!

I see this a lot and to be honest, I did this when I first got started. What’s important is that it’s recognized and improve on it.

Hey Jerome,
Way to break it down. Sometimes the line can seem a little gray, what actually qualifies as business building activities.
You’ve done a great job of drawing the line. This should be helpful to a lot of people!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Susanna,
That line does seem a little gray at times. And, without having an outline similar to what I provided, it makes it a lil’ difficult to see where the business building activities begins and ends.
Have a great weekend too,
Jerome Ratliff
So shuffling papers and watching youtube clips doesn’t count?
lol It’s so easy to get sidetracked doing “busy work” but you really need to break it down and ask “is this activity actually building my business/making money?”

Using your time productively will produce the results you want. Anything else is a waste of business time.
Great diagram and way to explain what business building time really is.
Some people assume that because they are reading a book or surfing online that this is building their business. Wrong. You business only builds via direct measeurable business building activities!

Hey Jerome,
Awesome insights, man. I might have to look at the way I write articles now.
It also brings up the fact that it’s important to measure the results of your activities too. There’s the good old 80/20 rule – 20% of your efforts will produce 80% of your results. If you don’t know that 20%, then you can’t really optimise your efforts.
Great post,
