“Through the reciprocation of energy, always, and every time, we will get exactly what we put out there to others…” ~ Will Barnes
The Law of Reciprocity (hard word to say, I know) is one of those laws every single business leader has been abiding by.
Take Bill Gates as an example, him and his wife have been giving back to come up with a cure for aids.
Andrew Carnegie gave back by donating large sums of his money to educational, cultural and scientific institutions.
John D. Rockefeller tithed 10% of his income to his church.
And what did they all get back???
Gratification, joy and most of the time, more earned income.
Just as the quote Will Barnes had provided us with, the Law of Reciprocity can be hard at work for you and your home business if you are giving back.
And giving back doesn’t always have to be in the form of money. Providing your time and invaluable information is another way.
Let’s take a look at how you can just put these two forms of giving back into your home business…
Providing Your Time
Have your home business sponsor a cause that you can participate in. For example, we’ve done a “March for Babies” run for the March of Dimes foundation.
You can even have your home business sponsor something like a Habitat for Humanity foundation. Just find something you can participate in where you have your home business be that sponsor.
Not to mention, this is a great alternative for advertising your home biz.
Providing Invaluable Information
We are big fans of this one and we do it all them time, right here on this blog. Another way we provide on invaluable information is to our team and our email subscribers with something that will benefit them in advancing their business.
Lately we’ve been seeing a lot of this done with Social Media Tribes. There are great ones on Facebook that do this. We even have one for Maverick Business Builders.
If you want to be a part of that, here is the group >> http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27426918244
Now the whole purpose here is to put everyone you want to help first. You can’t be in it just for yourself where you’re looking to gain something out of it.
It just won’t work for you.
However, if you put the “cause” first, then there is a very good chance you will get something back.
The best part is the Law of Reciprocity is so easy to follow and do.
For your home business all you have to do is share other great information onto people within your network. Some people think it would have an opposite effect and draw others away.
It’s quite the opposite though. Because you’re sharing something of value, people will appreciate that because you’re not the only one out to benefit.
This will earn you some great bonus points too.
Give it a try the next time you’re in a social situation, online or in person.
Put the Law of Reciprocity Hard at Work for Your Home Business
Let’s use prospecting as an example. You’re at a social networking event and while you’re talking to someone they mention how hard it is to prospect. At this point, your alarm should be going off in your head.
Because right about now is when you will be providing them with a resource of how they will overcome this.
This person will be so appreciative for you genuinely wanting to help them, they will never forget you for that. And that’s exactly the impression you want to leave with everyone.
Do you thinking using the Law of Reciprocity is something you can easily do for your home business?
Let us know…and if you have a specific example you want to share with us, that would be great if you wouldn’t mind sharing. I don’t know about you, but I’m a story kind of guy.

P.S. Following this law is something that should never stop, the minute it does, so does everything else. Keep on giving!

Hi Jerome,
thanks for this very illustrative explanation how the law of reciprocity applies to home-businesses. There are plenty of opportunities how to do that, one of which might be that I am able to spend with my kids when other dads are at work in an office.
Have a blessed weekend and take care

Hi Oliver,
Great point…I’m a big fan of that as well.

Jerome we have a great opportunity with this business to be big givers and receivers and like you mentioned not just monetarily but of our time and knowledge. I think at the end of the day these are the most beneficial to others and we get to reap the rewards of seeing people turn their lives and business’s around.

Jerome yes indeed. The law of reciprocity is most effective always by giving value first and give it without any expectation and give it often.
I luv your post!

Hey Jerome,
Thanks for the inspiration my friend. I believe that giving unconditionally is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. The universe will always give it back to you in the most unexpected ways.

Hi Jerome.
I enjoy posts like this because I try to live this stuff each moment!
I practice tithing and seek to help whenever I can because it feels good and I know that everybody prospers when I help. JD Rockefeller was another giver: he gave away dimes to homeless people when he was 10 and went on to amass the great fortune of all time, modern day his net worth would be over a quarter of a trillion dollars.
You always get what you give.
Thanks for sharing great value as always.

hey Jerome,
Great blog on the law of reciprocity. The first time I ever heard of this law was in Michael Clouse’s “Prospecting 101″ CD which I highly recommend. People are looking for how you can benefit them, and in return you may have yourself a great business partner. Keep up the great work Jerome!!

Great post Jerome! It brings to light another very rewarding aspect of our business – it allows us to share something of ourselves with others on a daily basis. Whether it be monetary giving,or through leadership, time, advice, or financial solutions, a home based business provides us with the opportunity to share on all levels. And it’s true – the more we share what we have, the more we thrive.
-Lindsey
Hi Lindsay,
I just luv integrating this into our business. Outside of what I talked about…it’s so much fun too. Sounds like you’d agree with that too.
Have a great weekend,

Absolutely Jerome! You have to give unconditionally to receive. I love the idea of having your home business sponsor a cause that you can participate in. Awesome!
