Nobody cares about your home business? This is a pretty sensitive subject for those running a home business, but this is the very reason why there needs to be an understanding on how to run a home business.
Lately I’ve been seeing a surplus of advertising where right in the middle of the advertisement, people are asking others to join their business.
This is so wrong on so many levels.
Although, I’ve realized why network marketers are using this approach. As a new distributor they are probably equipped with a name jogger, a replicated website (with the sub-domain of their choice), tools for recruiting and corporate telling them to get people signed up as a distributor or customer.
Now, what tends to happen and it’s not corporates fault, are these newbie network marketers misunderstand the message.
The message is to get distributors and customers. But, what is being interpreted is “beg people to become a customer and/or a distributor”.
Do you think there is a difference between the two? Uh, yes there is!
Corporate is just telling them what kind of result they should be after. They may not be blatantly showing them how to do this (depending on their company they’re with), but what corporate is assuming is that they are going to build relationships with people first and then see if their prospects would be a perfect match as a customer or distributor.
Within there it does not say to be desperate, does it? What is key within that statement is the word relationships. If there is any intention to do any business, trust and a relationship needs to be built. People don’t buy from people they don’t trust or know.
With this huge misunderstanding, people are armed with this wrong approach. They start asking for people to join their business and they don’t even know if that person is right for their team and if the person wants it.
Some may disagree and say, “It’s a numbers game, the more people I ask, the sooner I sign up someone.” That is true, but it requires so much of their wasted time. Instead they could be smart about this and build rapport, find out about the person, see if there is a match, then approach them about their business opportunity.
The process is not, ask them to join my business opportunity then build rapport. Uh uh!
Let’s compare this process to buying a car. When buying a car, you go to a car dealership. Right away we know the person we are going to be dealing with. Someone who knows about cars. So, a little trust has already been built and we haven’t even entered the showroom yet.
Once you enter the showroom, you’ll be approached by a salesperson. They then will start with asking you questions.
A good car salesperson will ask you why you want to buy a car. This helps them understand the need and what some of their recommendations may be. As a result, more trust is built.
Once you tell them what you want, they want you to experience it (i.e. test drive) so you know what you will get and if you like it. Again, more trust is built.
As soon as you agree on the car, they walk you through the process in buying the car. Ah, more trust again.
Because the person had trust in the person they were dealing with, they bought from them. Running your home business is the same, only then will you get results.
So, the only time when someone is going to care about your home business is when you’ve built trust or a relationship with them. Otherwise, you’re just another pushy salesperson who is trying to make a sale.
One other advantage to building trust first is, you’ll become respected as a leader. And, as a result, you may get new clients that are referred to you.
Taking this approach is a smarter way to running your home business versus playing the numbers game begging people to join your home business.
I know this post is a little different than you are use to, but I felt compelled to be true to you. I guess that’s because my calling has been to help STOP network marketers from struggling.

Jerome,
I can’t hear enough of this. I think what
a lot of people don’t realize is that
trust is probably the BIGGEST factor
in marketing success.
If you can earn trust through relationships or
other forms of proof then you’re on the path
to business success.
It’s the “secret” nobody cares to pay attention too. It’s a shame, because even the crooks “get it” when other people are struggling in the dark.
Keep it coming Jerome.
This rocks.
This is one of the things people really SHOULD understand.
Trust can go a long way. It can help their business and in their personal life.
What a concept hey! Thanks for your kind words Jason.

Jerome
I always get invites to join people’s home business. I would typically just ignore them.
Next time will be different.
Thanks for sharing – people need to be aware of this.

I’m glad you agree with my take on this.
Enough was enough and I just needed to share this message.
Besides, it will help them in long-run.

Hi Jerome.
Nice post.
Trust and relationship building are essential for a strong business structure.
The more you can connect with people the more you can understand their needs and the more they will want to work with you and the likely hood is they will stay with you in your business instead of jumping ship for the next best 6-figure income in 6 minute deal.

Hi Dwayne – Thanks for visiting.
And yeah, having that understanding by effectively using trust in a relationship can be to your success and your teams.
That concept seems pretty easy to understand for us, but as you know NOT for everyone.
