Home Business No Nos

We all like to run our home business our way, but is your way the right way or the wrong way?

Home Business No NosThe answer to that question all depends. It depends on the success of your results.

Are you getting the expected results versus results? Perhaps you wanted to get traffic to your website, but was it the right audience for your website.

Getting the desired results matters and why there are somethings that can be avoided during the process of building your home business.

Let’s look into what constitutes doing the right thing versus the wrong thing.

Home Business No Nos

Think of your home business as a process. There are steps each of us needs to take to be successful, but there are also no nos we shouldn’t be taking that actually hurts our home business.

Step #1 – Prospecting

Prospecting, the first and very important step is where you’re trying to find your qualified prospects by word of mouth or my favorite, advertising.

The purpose of this step is target your ideal prospect.

Targeting your prospect means only working with people that have the business in checking out what you have to offer. Otherwise it’s a waste of your time and theirs.

The most common mistake when it comes to prospecting is when network marketers begin puking their business on their prospect.

At this step of the game, information should be kept brief, but provide enough information to stir up interest so that your prospects want to learn more about your  home business.

Home business no no – Don’t puke on your prospect.

Step #2 – Inviting

This is the step where you invite your prospect to find out more about your business. This can even mean them contacting you, which is how I run my business.

The purpose to this step is to see if the prospect meets the needs of the person you’re looking for to join your team and also if it is something they are interested in.

What I painfully see in new and inexperienced network marketers is them begging their prospects to take a look at their business.

This always kills me because they might not even be the person they are looking for and the network marketer would still ask if they want to take a look at their business.

Doah! Why even bother if you don’t want them in your team. You can’t be desperate here. It’s ok to wait until you find the right person.

Home business no no – Don’t show one ounce of desperation to your prospect.

Step #3 – Presentation

Your presentation is a very critical component so that it shows your prospect all the information about your home business and that it answers all of your prospect’s questions.

The purpose to this step is to ensure your prospect knows enough information in order to make an informed decision on what to do.

Now, if you can successfully get past step #2 and really have trust built amongst you and the prospect, this will be an easy part of the process.

Because they trust you, it doesn’t matter what company you are with. They want what you have.

Does this mean they will always join?

No, but it will definitely increase your chances of getting that right person.

What I hear a lot of and seen firsthand is presenters whose business requires a monthly auto-ship program, fail to go over this piece. It’s usually not intentional.

It may be because they fear it will scare the prospect away. My opinion is when you go into any presentation, be sure you always cover the important pieces and that you assume the presentation will be a success.

I prefer using a prior recorded presentation video that covers all of the important elements. A little automation trick here.

Home business no no – Don’t purposely leave out anything in your presentation.

Step #4 – Handling the objections

This step of the process usually comes up earlier in the process. However, there will be times when your prospect may have an objection.

That objection is really a question for you. Will you give them the right answer is up to you?

The purpose to this step is to intelligently answer questions for your prospect by guiding them through the entire process.

Also, take special note by having properly gone through step 1 – 3, you can definitely lower the amount of objections.

One thing you never want to do is provide false information when questioned about your business.

Think integrity when you’re answering an objection.

Oh yeah, if you get an objection don’t take it personal. Think of the objection as a question.

Home business no no – Don’t lie if you’re afraid to give the answer or mislead your prospect if you are afraid of their response.

Step #5 – Closing the sale

This step is where you’re having your prospect sign on the dotted line to join your business.

The purpose to this step is to guide and acquire certain information from your prospect in getting them to make a decision.

To ensure this step is a success, it’s important that you maintain your posture and guide your prospect as to what is next.

You never want to show uncertainty. If there is a question that arises as you’re signing them up, tell them you’ll have to come back to that and answer it later.

You’ll be well respected when taking this approach.

Home business no no – Don’t show uncertainty when gathering important information.

So, there you have it. The four steps to building your business and the no nos you want to avoid.

What are some common home business no nos you’ve discovered that has really hurt you but taught you a very important lesson?
