You know it’s really bad when failing network marketers are tooting their own horn talking about how they can show you how to make money with your home business.
What do you think this is doing for the industry?
What do you think this is doing for their credibility?
I have one thing to say to these people, stop telling me how I should run my business, shut up and show me the results, then I’ll take your direction.
If you notice anything we talk about on the Maverick Business Builders blog it’s about things we have personally done and had experience with.
If we are multi-million dollar business, then we can we show you how you too can have a multi-million dollar business.
Otherwise, we have no right to make blatant lies. It ruins our credibility and our reputation for helping struggling home business owners.
So what can you do about it?
Just because someone is telling you to promote one thing, like how to sponsor 10 people per day and you haven’t personally done it yourself, then don’t even bother.
The old “Fake it ’til you Make it” doesn’t work.
Just a quick clarification what “Fake it ’til you Make it” means. It means act and feel like you are successful, not lie.
This should show in your posture, not in falsified statements.
Ok, I’m off my soap box now.
Now on the other hand, if you have personally sponsored 10 people per day, then by all means promote that.
What is key is to promote what has worked for you.
This will attract other people who are in your same position.
I’ll give you another example.
Let’s say you have been using social media to promote your business products and you have been able to get 3 customers a week.
This would be your message.
By promoting the road less travelled, you’ll gain more respect and attract more like minded people.
And, as you get better in your results, then you can ramp up what it is you promote.
It’s far easier to promote something we have experience with versus the complete opposite.
I know I may have opened Pandora’s box, but this is the way it is.
This is how to become magnetic. This is what it means to be successful.

Hey Jerome,
What happened? Something really lit you up!
I agree only speak and deliver info that you have experience. That is the best way to build credibility. “Fake till you make it” is old school and it doesn’t work today.

Hey there Josh.
For me, I heard one person promoting how to do this and that, I asked them what their experience was. They said they had none.
I was like, then why say something you can’t say you have personally done.
That minute that person’s credibility went out there door. It was a shame…
Have a great day,
Jerome Ratliff

Honesty is the best Policy, Be real with who you are and results you share if you choose to and people will get involved with you because who you are and not solely off your Results.

Hi Jerome,
It’s best to be honest. People build relationships with honest people and this is the cornerstone of successful business.
Anybody who’s made their money without earning it by lying about trumped up results often loses it quickly. The universe is just like that
Create compelling content and more importantly be a person of service and you won’t have a problem attracting a great deal of business.
Thanks for the reminder Jerome.

Jerome I hope you never get mad at me. Ok now that we that out of the way I couldn’t agree with you more. I have seen people post all kind of things on different social media’s to portray themselves the expert then send me a message with a question an expert should know. Now I don’t have a problem with positioning yourself to be a leader that is what it’s all about. But don’t make false claims lead people astray hurting them and yourself in the process and give us all bad raps.
Steve Shoemaker

So true…It’s much better to position yourself as someone who has been down that road before.

Wow, we’re seeing the other side of Jerome Ratliff today!
Can you tell I like your topic here! hehehe
The best way to build rapport and crediblity is by being genuine. I do believe in “selling the dream” but be honest about who’s success you’re selling. People are inspired and motivated to join your team when you are sold on the dream and oozing with anticipation and excitement yourself. When they see you are determined to be that one sponsering 10 in a day…you’ve just breathed belief into your team member or prospect.
Ooohh this is getting lengthy (apologies)
Have a great weekend,
Tragena
Great response Tragena, it wasn’t lengthy at all.
I love how you said to believe in “selling the dream”. That is profound when realized.
Oh yeah, I could tell you liked it as well.

Hey Jerome, straight to the center mate!
You are absolutely right on this… Its necessary to be straight and honest with people, and provide them exactly what worked for us.That way we can always show them the results and prove ourselves as honest leaders – no better way to establish long term trust.
We have old saying here in Serbia ” A Lie Has short Legs” ..
See you Jerome!
Hi Milena,
It’s much easier to be straight forward, honest and who you are versus being something you’re not.
It just doesn’t resonate. So, why even bother.
What a great saying, “A lies has short legs”.
Thanks for passing that on.
Have a great day,
Jerome Ratliff
Too many people try to ‘short cut’ getting their own experience and training, and try market as though they are experts. Not only do these folks loose in the end, they give the industry a bad rep, because people will find out if you are not who and what you said you are.
Be yourself and work to increase your value. Then share what you know so that it can help others.
Jerome…keep it real my friend!

Excellent point James.

Hi Jerome,
I think lots of people think they need to tell the world how much money they have made even if it’s none as this will make them look successful and people will join them. As you say this does not work.
By sharing what you have learnt no matter how small is more valuable than what a lot of the so called gurus do.
Great post and thanks for sharing.

YES YES YES – Great stuff Jerome
I agree with your 100000% – being true to yourself and true to others it definitely the way to run a business. Authenticity is key especially now with the rise of social media.
On my blog.. it’s all about the things that I’ve personally done in my business and NEVER go into “hypothetical situations” – I see this is your approach also, and I really respect that bro

Hey Jerome,
Very important post here. Thanks for putting this out there.
There are also legal issues that marketers have to be aware of when making claims. Anybody can make a claim, and that’s why it’s ILLEGAL to do so unless you have factual evidence to back it up.
Making claims are a form of enticement, and I agree with the authorities in making these restrictions.

I been teaching a whole new approach lately that really fits with this. We are building peoples sales funnels with the concept of marketing to who they are. If you’re a real estate agent, market to real estate agents or similar. That way you have a lot to talk about without trying to blow up your opp.
It gives you the full ability to just be yourself, and have much more trust from people. It is also the best way to get out of the highly competitive keyword fields that this industry fights for.
Great Post Jerome.
.-= Chris Owen´s last blog ..The Google Switch…Jim Yaghi and David Schwind Break New Ground =-.
Hey Chris,
Having it fit who they are will also so much easier for that person to build a business instead of not feeling good with an approach they have no experience with.
That’s cool you’re teaching this.

You just stepped on some toes Jerome Lol, but You know what the best part of this post is?
If marketers can show results and how they did it, not only does it build credibility but it can genuinely help others to be successful online.

Jerome,
I sometimes wonder when chatting with people if they are really enjoying the success that they talk about. Interesting topic and you really make several great points to back it up.
The “Fake It Until You Make It” really sounds fake and I don’t think you would be able to get away with it anyway.
