“I am going to show you how to make millions of dollars within your first year of Network Marketing. All you have to do is join my team!”
Who hasn’t heard this before?
Do you think this particular network marketer has learned how to make a million dollars?
If they did, they are going about this all wrong.
However, the chances are they haven’t even gotten close to a million dollars.
Probably not even thousand a month.
It’s network marketers like these that give us a bad name.
These are your network marketing liars!
I was recently talking with a very highly qualified prospect and they were dead serious about getting back into this business.
This person, I won’t say names, was very successful in network marketing who just got lazy. They admitted their failure was all of their fault.
Well, one thing that always bothered them was the misconception of a network marketer who comes off as a liar.
I digged into this, just for curiousity purposes and I undercovered what it was.
Do you know what it is? I’ll mention it below just in case you don’t know.
If you’ve been in this industry then you know who they are and what they do. Most likely something you don’t want to associate yourself with.
The saying goes, teach and show people what you’ve already put to use and gotten results with.
So why would you do any different.
This type of bologna doesn’t even speak to who their target audience is let alone hold an ounce of truth.
Now, if you some how mastered a way to put an extra $1,000 into your pocket each and every month and how you went about it, then that should be your message.
It is so simple and straightforward. It even can be used as your “Headline”.
This headline is calling out to who your target market is.
What in the World Can You do Though?
Remember when we talked about getting customers last week and about niche market.
Well, for the home business seekers, this is focusing on the niche market.
Wouldn’t you rather work with a small set of people you want oppose to a mass market of unqualified prospects you can’t even relate to?
If you want to be successful it’s a no brainer which one to choose
Plain in simple, hype does not sell. All hype shows is how you are a Network Marketer who lies.
Here’s the thing where hype and entice get confused. Hype is misleading while entice is something you are about to share with your audience.
The next time you are thinking of using hype, instead find a way to use enticing words that engage your audience.
If you want more people just like you in your business, then drop the hype, stop being a liar and entice.
What are some unique ways you’ve used to keep you away from coming off as a network marketing liar?

Hey Jerome,
I think we’ve seen this individuals just not in network marketing business. In business general, I’ve came across sales people that promise everything to the client just to get a sale. Guess what, it always comes back and burns them later.
Just be yourself and people will like to be with you for who you are.

Glad you’re telling it like it is, Jerome!
For me, I try not to talk about how much money people make because it’s totally up to the individual…
I mean, even when I start making millions, I STILL won’t brag about it because I don’t think it matters very much when it comes to signing up business builders.
Besides, I think that only suckers would fall for inflated income claims… and we both know that they never accomplish much!

Hey Jerome,
I love the honesty. As you so mildly put it, “stop being a liar”. lol
I find it’s easier to sell people on me, and put the opportunity as a “you get from it, what you put into it” sort of thing.
It’s crazy how some people market. My favorite is “buy this business kit and you’ll be making 10,000 a month in your first six months”. Of course some people do that. But they have to buy in at a much higher level than the average, and they have money to invest in marketing.
Leaving out those details makes the quick sale, and then has people heading to the forums to talk about how your opportunity is garbage.

And you’re so right. You get from it, what you put into it. Chris that sums it up!

Hi Jerome,
I’m brutally honest. It’s up to each individual. Now if they are putting in the effort, I’ll certainly match that and train them for success.
They know right from the start that it’s going to take time, and work. Sometimes they seem genuinely surprised to hear me say that, but isn’t it refreshing to know the truth from the start?
Great article, keeping it real.
Susanna
It definitely is refreshing to know from the start. I can’t imagine doing in any other way.
Well said Susanna.

Hey Jerome,
Making an income claim is illegal, it’s as plain and simple as that.
Actually, I’ve got people who always pitch me on how to put 10 in my business every week.
But my mentor once asked those guys to put him on the phone with the 10 people he sponsored last week. Dead silence.
Live large,

Ah yes the lies… and usually just to get a sign up presumably. I don’t get it.It does not say much as the basis for a business relationship. Honesty is something I value, practice and admire in others. Great post Jerome.

Good stuff Jerome,
If you listened to all of the people “trying” to market online, they are all making a million dollars a month. The problem is, people don’t know how to sell without lying a lot of times. If you are brand new, you don’t have a story like your upline who is making money. However, you could say something like, “You wouldn’t believe how much money I’ve made”, and you wouldn’t be telling a lie. You leave the interpretation up to person you are talking to, it doesn’t matter that you have made zero. The thing that I always like to tell people that are new in my business is to watch a scene from “Boiler Room” where Ben Affleck says, “Act as if”. You can “act as if” without lying and still project leadership and attraction qualities.

Wow! – Powerful and controversial Title there Jerome.
The thing about hype is this, there is so much of it that people “up the anti” just to get there message heard over the “BS” that is already out there.
It is hard to keep it real, but that should be the best and only way.
Great post.

I get so sick and tired of the BS DM’s I get about “make 5 figures a month in 90 days or less” I could puke.
You get out of it what you put into it. Also, like any brick and mortar business, business ebbs and flows.
What goes around comes around and the liars will purge themselves in the end.

I think that since there have been so many lies and bs income claims, people are starting to ignore it.
Hype marketing is dying, I get far better results by just telling it how it is. It makes me stand out more.

The title of this post should make all of us think. Could this be what most prospects think? Unfortunately many of them do think we’re all liars. And of course that’s not true.
The hype spinners shins a negative light on network markers and direct sales in general.
Jerome, we can’t control the behavior of others, but we can keep sending the message that you don’t have to be a liar to stand out in our competitive industry. We can also offer alternative methods to the people we bring into our business.
Your post is the truth.
Thanks

Hey James,
Thanks for stopping by…
You’re right, we can’t control others behaviors but we can control what message we send out to the world like how to do the business the right way with the utmost integrity. Posts and language we share on this blog promote that.
Great PoV.
Have a great day,
